Polo Game originated in 3100 BC in Manipur, India. The game of Polo is an integral part of Manipuri Culture. It is traditionally known as Sagol Kangei (Sagol means Horse & Kangei Means a game of sticks). Mapal Kangeibung located at Imphal, Manipur is the oldest polo ground in the world. Britishers in 1854 at Cachar, Assam learned about the game from Meitei people staying there and later popularized the game as modern polo. The first polo club in the world was formed in Silchar, Assam. The Manipuri Horse Riding & Polo Association (MHRPA) manages the polo ground & organizes State-Level and International matches.

Polo is one of the worlds oldest known team sports. This game speaks about the tradition and culture of Manipur with the Britishers first to learn and start playing the game.
