Sougaijam Thanil Singh is one of the pioneers of Manipur who promote and propagate the nuances and charm of Manipuri Dance and Nata Sankirtana to the rest of the world. For his proficiency in these art forms and distinguishing efforts and dedication to promoting the culture of Manipur, he was honoured with the Padmashree Award in 2005. He is one of those who exalt Nata Sankirtana to the level that it is now recognised by UNESCO as the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

CHIEF MINISTER’S AWARD FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE 2021

Department of Administrative Reforms, Government of Manipur instituted the Chief Minister’s Award for Good Governance in the Year 2020 to recognize and reward innovative & extraordinary work that promotes good governance done by civil servants under the Government of Manipur. Under this Scheme, civil servants are rewarded for outstanding and exemplary performance in initiatives and projects which have benefitted a large number of citizens/stakeholders in Individual & Team Category with cash award of Rs. 1 lakh and 2 lakh respectively. The Award for the Year 2020-21 was distributed on the occasion of Independence Day, 2021 at 1st MR Parade Ground. Altogether 3(three) officers in Individual Category and 7(seven) Departments in Team Category were rewarded.

PATRIOTS’ DAY: Remembering the Fallen Heroes of Anglo-Manipuri War

The Anglo- Manipuri War of 1891 is one of the most important events in the history of Manipur. In the war against the British colonial expansion, many martyrs of the tiny kingdom of Manipur laid down their lives to save the dignity, honour and sovereignty of their motherland despite the inevitable defeat against the mighty empire of the British. After the graceful defeat at the Battle of Khongjom where the Manipuri armies fought gallantly under Major Paona Brajabashi, Manipur lost its sovereignty to the British.

She has produced numerous eminent sports personalities who have brought laurels to the nation, set national and international records. Taking part in the Olympics is a dream for every athlete and Manipur has produced a remarkable number of athletes who have participated in such a huge international event as the Olympic Games including a star who won a medal in the Olympics of 2012. Again this year, 5 athletes from Manipur are representing India in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics, 2020.

Result Announcement of SPORTS QUIZ

Festivals of Manipur: Kang

The festival of “Kang’’ or ‘Rath-Yatra’ is one of the biggest festivals of Manipur celebrated by the Meitei community who follow Vaishnavism. The origin and theme of the celebration in Manipur are adapted from the Rath-Yatra festival in Puri in Odisha. The festival is celebrated every year as a commemoration of the day when the idols of Lord Jagannath, His brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra got enshrined at the Jagannath Temple of Puri, Orissa.
