पौधे वातावरण के लिए फेफड़ों का काम करते हैं| ये ऑक्सीजन छोड़ते हैं और वातावरण से कार्बन डाईऑक्साइड सोख कर हवा को शुद्ध बनाते हैं| पौधों की पत्तियां भी सल्फ़र डाई ऑक्साइड और नाइट्रोजन डाई ऑक्साइड जैसे ख़तरनाक तत्व अपने में समा लेती हैं और हवा को साफ़ बनाती हैं|
