Irom Chandrabala Devi from Manipur was conferred the National Florence Nightingale Award 2023 by the Indian Nursing Council under the Health and Family Welfare Ministry The awards were handed over by President Droupadi Murmu during an award ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi She is an MSc Nursing qualified Public Health Nurse with 20 years of experience. She currently works at the Community Health Centre, Sagolmang in Imphal East. She has actively participated in the implementation of all national health programs, and her contribution to health education for tribal groups about the prevention of infectious and non-infectious diseases, particularly regarding substance misuse prevention and naturopathy, is commendable. She has participated in numerous CNE programs to keep her knowledge and skills current, and she has won district-level recognition for her outstanding contributions to COVID care.

Who is the mother of Indian nursing?
Florence Nightingale was the first woman to have great influence over nursing in India and brought reforms in military and civilian hospitals in 1861. St. Stevens Hospital at Delhi was the first one to begin training Indian women as nurses in 1867.
