“Festivals of India Quiz” is an initiative of MyGov Manipur and the Department of Information Technology to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of our magnificent country with a special focus on festivals celebrated in the state of Manipur. MyGov Manipur is thankful to all for participating in the contest.

The Battle of Khongjom has remained one of the most important events in the history of Manipur. Historians noted the battle as one of the fiercest battles in the history of India’s freedom struggle. The Khongjom battle bequeathed to Manipuris a legacy of patriotism and heroism. The heroism of the gallant warriors is being passed down through generations in the form of a traditional ballad ‘Khongjom Parva’. Every year, on the 23rd of April, the whole state of Manipur pays homage to those great warriors at the Khongjom War Memorial Complex.

Either to have a profound understanding of their own history, origin, and culture or to display the same to a different people of a different era, cultural and historical heritages in tangible or intangible forms are the compulsory assets that people should own. In the form of folklores, art forms like dance, drama, music, etc., and events and festivals such as Lai Haraoba, HeikruHidongba, MeraHouChongba, etc the cultural and historical glory of the Manipuris have been passed down and preserved through generations.

The festival of Yaoshang is considered one of the major festivals of Manipur. People from different communities come together to take part in the celebrations. A five-day event celebrated on the full moon day of the month of Lamta (February-March), the festival is generally celebrated at the same time as holi.

The winter fog is starting to give way to the summer sun. While winter has its own challenges, the summer heat brings its own in regards to our health and well-being. It’s important to prepare our bodies for the changes.
